The Lhasa Apso was once used as a monastery watchdog. Tibet is the country of origin for the Lhasa Apso. Lhasa Apsos only belonged to Tibetan royals and holy men for thousands of years. According to Tibetan legend, when the master of a Lhasa Apso died, his soul would enter the body of his dog, and so these dogs were considered sacred.
