Chocolat is a sweet Lhasa Apso mix that came to us from a nearby county as a stray. He was so pitiful when we took him in. Part of his body was practically devoid of all hair and the other part was a complete matted mess. After we shaved him down we realized just how cute he really was! He doesn't always have that cute little 'elvis' look going on with his mouth (you can see it in his profile photo), but when he does he is so adorable. We believe that Chocolat had been on his own for some time based on his condition when he came to us but he is now all cleaned up, his coat is growing back in nicely, he has had all his vaccinations, has ... (Read More)been neutered and is on heartworm and flea and tick preventative. He gets along with the other small dogs here at the clinic. If you are interested in adopting Chocolat please fill out an adoption application which you can find under the adoption tab on our website. (Less)

PLEASE read his entire description before considering submitting an application. Meet Opie! This adorable little guy is a 1 year old Lhasa Apso searching for his forever family. Opie originally came into our rescue when he was 8 months old and was adopted quickly. He was a total sweetheart with no issues at all. Not too long ago he was returned to our rescue because he had become very aggressive and his owners had become frightened of him. A behaviorist checked him out and deemed him dangerous and recommended he be euthanized. One of our foster moms knew Opie from when he first came into our rescue. She actually kept him the first couple of ... (Read More)weeks he was in our rescue before turning him over to his main foster home. Remembering the sweet and playful dog she had witnessed she ask that he be returned to her before making a final decision on euthanizing him. So, we agreed. Here is Opie's story today from his foster mom: Opie is absolutely wonderful. When I first got him back he was very aggressive. He was fine with all of my other dogs but not very trusting of humans, myself included. If I reached for him he would try to bite me. He actually got me once and yes, it did hurt. However, I was not ready to give up on him. I've only had him for a few weeks now but he is already a totally different dog. He's not perfect yet but he's 90% there. What I realized was that he was bored. He needed something to do. A job. I found that he loves his toys. So, with the toys I taught him to play fetch. Every time he brings me the toy back I reward him and praise him. He loves this. We are now working on other things for him to do'|all rewarded with a treat and praise. If he doesn't complete the task he doesn't get the reward. He's a quick learner and really wants to please. Now he snuggles with me when I'm watching tv. I can reach down and pick him up with no problem. I work from home and I do have employees that come in and he's great with them. A friend came to my house the other day and reached down to pick him up before I could warn him but there was no problem. Opie let him pick him up and even gave him kisses. Opie sleeps on my bed at night and will crawl up on me and start giving me kisses to wake me up and let me know he's ready to go outside. I could go on and on but the point is that he's a perfectly wonderful little guy. Because of his history we are looking for a home that understands that he needs attention. He needs something to do. You must have time to work with him, play with him, take him for walks, etc. He's not going to just be a couch potato. He needs activity. You can't be afraid of him. He will pick up on this. You have to be his leader. He responds well with this. Punishment and times out is not the answer. Time and love is and he does respond to this very well as I've already stated. If you think you are up for this and can commit to Opie in this way then please contact us for an application. Opie must go to a home with no children and we prefer a home with a fenced in yard. PLEASE do not request an application if you have children, we will deny it. I know he's cute but unless you are willing to take the time to work with him please do not apply. It's really not work. He just needs stimulation so he doesn't become bored. He's an awesome little guy and very loving and affectionate. If you feel you are the right home for Opie please email us at and put 'Opie' in the subject line. (Less)
